Doulla Panaretou
I'm a screenwriter and director, and I've been a film lover since a very young age. I've created a number of award-winning shorts, with my most recent short, Enamour, having won eight awards globally.
I'm now focusing on developing feature films,
as both a screenwriter and filmmaker.
Here's a little more about me and how it all began...
About Me
I've always been passionate about screenwriting and directing.
I gained a BA in Film and English, then an MA at Birbeck. Following that I wrote, produced, and directed a short, The Glittering Rain, and produced and directed Camouflage, which was nominated for an award at CAN Film Festival in Leicester.
Studying screenwriting at London’s Raindance Film School led to further courses in Producing, Directing, Cinematography, and Editing. I have also written a children’s fantasy story (with a focus on protecting the environment), which I have adapted into an animated, feature-length screenplay recently.
My time on a directing course at the National Film and Television School resulted in three shorts including writing and directing Golden Tickets, which received a Special Mention at Global Shorts Film Festival, and the official selection at Cannes Short Film Festival, and is doing the festival circuit.
My latest project, Enamour, has won eight festival awards globally including wins for Best Fantasy, Best Women Emancipation, Best Female Empowerment, Best Female Director, and Best Drama. In addition to the above, Enamour has had many official selections and nominations in various categories. See more about this project below.
I’m currently working on several writing and directing ventures, shorts, and features, which
are at various stages of development.

Inspiration & Vision
When I was little, I was given the gift of a Disney movie projector. For hours I would project the flickering, colourful images of Disney characters onto the darkened walls of my lounge and get lost in their stories. This is where my passion for films began.
Studying Film and English for many years reinforced my love of movies, and I was hugely inspired by classics such as It’s a Wonderful Life, Battleship Potemkin, and Neorealist Cinema.
Writing and directing is my greatest love in relation to the creative aspect. I enjoy visual storytelling, I would like to make more shorts with a variety of genres and work on developing features in addition to this.
